Oklahoma and Defensive Coordinator Ted Roof Part Ways

Roof declines offer to remain on staff in a different role after two seasons with the Sooners.

Ted Roof, Oklahoma's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, will not return in 2024.
Head coach Brent Venables offered Roof an opportunity to remain on staff in a different role, which Roof declined.
Roof has had a long career as a defensive coach, with stints at various universities including UMass, Georgia Tech, Duke, Minnesota, Auburn, UCF, Penn State, NC State, Appalachian State, and Vanderbilt.
Under Roof's leadership, Oklahoma's defense saw significant improvements, ranking second nationally with 20 interceptions and sixth in takeaways with 26 in the past season.
Despite the improvements, the Sooners struggled towards the end of the season, culminating in a 38-24 loss to Arizona in the Alamo Bowl.
