Okhla Raid Uncovers Large-Scale Food Repacking Racket

Authorities say operators used chemical thinners and specialised printing machines to erase and reprint expiry dates and that regulators will pursue strict legal action.

Overview

  • Police, FSSAI and SDM teams raided a warehouse in Okhla Phase II on Friday and arrested seven people, including owner Darshan Singh Sachdeva.
  • Investigators seized specialised printing and sealing equipment, chemical solvents, fake labels and tens of thousands of food and beverage packs that officials say carried forged dates and batch details.
  • Authorities reported seized goods worth over Rs 20 lakh and the FSSAI Northern Regional Office said it found more than 40,000 to 50,000 suspected tampered items at the site.
  • Officials said the accused bought expired or near‑expiry branded products at low cost, used thinners to remove original markings, then printed new dates, barcodes and MRPs before repackaging for sale.
  • An FIR has been registered and probes will map the distribution network to determine whether altered products reached retail outlets, e‑commerce platforms or export channels and to assess public‑health exposure.
