Oilers Promote Eight Staff to Reshape Analytics, Scouting and Development

The moves signal a push toward data-driven decision-making focused on strengthening scouting, player development, the club-to-affiliate pipeline.

Overview

  • The Oilers announced a package of eight promotions on May 28 that reshuffles hockey-operations duties across analytics, scouting, player development and Oil Kings leadership.
  • Michael Parkatti was elevated to Vice President, Analytics and Technology after serving as Senior Director of Data and Analytics and helping develop the expected-goals (xGoals) metric used to measure player effectiveness.
  • Kirt Hill moved from the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings to Assistant GM, Player Procurement to lead pro and amateur scouting and undrafted free-agent recruitment.
  • Other promotions installed dedicated roles for European scouting, prospect development and player services, including new titles for Kalle Larsson, Toby Salmelainen, Andreas Karlsson, Justin Mahe, Michael Chan and Jamie Jackson.
  • General manager Stan Bowman said the changes are the result of months of planning to improve scouting, development, analytics and player services and are meant to strengthen internal pipelines rather than signal a wholesale front-office purge.
