Ohtani Wins NL Silver Slugger at DH, Sets Japanese Record With Fourth Award

Managers and coaches judged the Dodgers star the NL’s top designated hitter on the strength of his power production after a midseason pitching comeback.

Overview

  • Ohtani was named the National League Silver Slugger at designated hitter on Nov. 6, with recipients determined by votes from MLB managers and coaches.
  • He produced a .282 average with 55 home runs and 102 RBIs in 2025, finishing second in the NL in homers and setting a personal best.
  • He edged fellow DH candidates Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies (56 HR, 132 RBIs) and Christian Yelich of the Brewers (29 HR, 103 RBIs) in the vote.
  • The honor is his fourth Silver Slugger after wins in 2021 and 2023 with the Angels and 2024 with the Dodgers, surpassing Ichiro Suzuki’s three for the most by a Japanese player.
  • He returned to pitching partway through the season while continuing to hit at an elite level, and the MVP award announcement is scheduled for Nov. 13 (Nov. 14 in Japan).
