Ohio to Stock 20,000 Muskies in Nine Lakes This Fall

ODNR says the effort is designed to build stronger muskie fisheries for future trophy angling.

Overview

  • The Division of Wildlife will release muskies in Alum Creek, C.J. Brown, Caesar Creek, Clearfork, Lake Milton, Leesville, Piedmont, Salt Fork, and West Branch.
  • Stocked fish measure about 10 to 12 inches and were raised at the state hatcheries in Kincaid and London.
  • ODNR recorded 348 qualifying muskie catches in 2024, including a largest reported fish of 53 inches from Alum Creek Lake.
  • Fish Ohio data show West Branch led 2024 entries, with strong reports from Leesville, Alum Creek, Piedmont, Pymatuning, Caesar Creek, C.J. Brown, Salt Fork, Clearfork, and the Mahoning River.
  • ODNR notes muskies are also caught in river systems, and the stocking is funded by fishing license sales and the federal Sport Fish Restoration program.
