Overview
- Lucas County prosecutors say a grand jury on Dec. 3 indicted Hassan-James Abbas on abduction, tampering with evidence, unlawful distribution of an abortion-inducing drug, disrupting public services, identity fraud, and deception to obtain a dangerous drug.
- State Medical Board filings allege Abbas used his estranged wife’s identity to order mifepristone and misoprostol from an out-of-state telemedicine provider before attempting to administer crushed pills to his sleeping girlfriend.
- The alleged victim reported the incident to 911 and sought emergency care, and records state she was told the medication ended the pregnancy.
- Board documents say Abbas acknowledged in a July interview that he ordered the drugs using his estranged wife’s information and crushed the pills, while asserting the woman consented.
- He is scheduled for arraignment on Dec. 19; his license was summarily suspended Nov. 5, he is on administrative leave from the University of Toledo, and a medical-board hearing is set for May 14–15, 2026.
