Ohio State Tops First CFP Rankings as Indiana and Texas A&M Follow in Debut 12-Team Bracket

The committee debuted straight seeding with a new record-strength metric, placing Memphis as the provisional Group-of-Five entrant.

Overview

  • The top four seeds with first-round byes are Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M and Alabama under the revised format.
  • BYU is No. 7 as the Big 12's unbeaten leader, with Texas Tech at No. 8 and Oregon at No. 9 in the initial top 25.
  • No Group-of-Five team made the rankings, so Memphis would occupy the No. 12 seed and Virginia, the ACC's highest-ranked team at No. 14, would be No. 11 in the bracket.
  • Notre Dame rose to No. 10 after an 0-2 start, keeping the Fighting Irish inside the projected field.
  • Rankings will update weekly until the Dec. 7 final reveal, ahead of campus-site first-round games scheduled for Dec. 19–20.
