  • Coach Ryan Day officially announced sophomore Julian Sayin as Ohio State’s Week 1 starter in the Aug. 30 opener
  • Day described the battle with Lincoln Kienholz as close and said Sayin’s consistent play in the final week of camp set him apart
  • Lincoln Kienholz will serve as the primary backup and freshman Tavien St. Clair holds the third-string spot on the depth chart
  • Sayin transferred from Alabama after Nick Saban’s retirement and last season completed 5 of 12 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown over 27 snaps
  • The debut will pit Sayin against Texas quarterback Arch Manning in Columbus and Day indicated he may still deploy multiple quarterbacks during the season
