Overview

  • Day announced the decision Monday, locking in Sayin to make his first collegiate start on Aug. 30 in Columbus against Texas and Arch Manning.
  • The head coach called the competition "close" and said Sayin will receive the majority of first-team reps while emphasizing the team may need both quarterbacks this season.
  • Kienholz slots in as the backup and freshman Tavien St. Clair is third on the depth chart, according to multiple reports.
  • Sayin appeared in four games last season, completing 5 of 12 passes for 84 yards and one touchdown across 27 snaps.
  • A former five-star and top 2024 quarterback recruit, Sayin transferred from Alabama after Nick Saban’s retirement, and Texas coach Steve Sarkisian publicly praised his arm talent and accuracy.
