Ohio Registration Deadline Is Today as Early Voting Begins Tuesday for Nov. 4 Election

Ohio's updated rules require a photo ID to vote in person, with four days to cure provisional ballots.

Overview

  • Voter registration for the November election closes Monday at 9 p.m. in person at county boards of elections and by 11:59 p.m. online.
  • Early in-person voting starts Tuesday, Oct. 7, at county elections offices and runs through Sunday, Nov. 2, with no early voting on Monday, Nov. 3.
  • Absentee ballot applications are due by 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 28, and mailed ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3 or returned to election offices by poll close on Nov. 4.
  • Acceptable photo IDs include an Ohio driver's license or state ID, a U.S. passport or passport card, and U.S. military or VA IDs, while utility bills and similar documents no longer qualify.
  • Ballots are dominated by local races and levies such as mayor, council, judges and school boards, and some election officials forecast turnout near 20%.
