Ohio Man Sentenced to Nearly 5 Years for Assaulting Police During Capitol Breach
Kenneth Joseph Owen Thomas, dubbed a 'one-man misinformation machine', was also ordered to pay a $20,000 fine and $2,000 in restitution.
- Kenneth Joseph Owen Thomas, 41, of East Liverpool, Ohio, was sentenced to 58 months in prison for assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol breach.
- Thomas was found guilty on seven counts, including four separate counts of assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers, obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, and engaging in disorderly and disruptive conduct on Capitol grounds.
- Thomas was also ordered to pay a $20,000 fine and $2,000 in restitution, and will serve 36 months of supervised release.
- Prosecutors described Thomas as a 'one-man misinformation machine', producing more than 20 hours of Jan. 6-related online content every week and spreading false narratives about the attack.
- Since the Capitol breach, more than 1,200 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the incident, including more than 400 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, a felony.
