Ohio Man Arrested in Antisemitic Attack Outside Washington D.C. Synagogue

Brent Wood Allegedly Sprayed Unknown Substance at Victims While Shouting 'Gas the Jews'; Incident Being Investigated as Possible Hate Crime Amid Surge in Antisemitic Incidents

Brent Wood, a 33-year-old from Toledo, Ohio, was arrested in Washington D.C. after allegedly spraying an unknown substance at two individuals outside the Israel Congregation synagogue while shouting 'Gas the Jews'.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning, is being investigated as a possible hate crime by the Metropolitan Police Department.
No injuries were reported and no hazardous materials were found in a sweep of Wood's vehicle.
This incident comes amid a surge in antisemitic incidents in the U.S., which have increased nearly 400% in October, following the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas on Israel.
The arrest occurred on the same day that multiple synagogues in Washington D.C. received threatening emails, however, police have stated that there are no known credible threats and the email threats do not appear to be related to the assault incident.
