Ohio Governor Mike DeWine vetoed a bill that would have banned minors from receiving gender-affirming healthcare and prohibited trans kids from playing school sports.
One week after the veto, DeWine signed an executive order banning hospitals in the state from performing gender-affirming surgery on minors and proposed intense restrictions on care for minors and adults.
The executive order also directed state health agencies to propose rules requiring a multi-disciplinary team for gender-affirming medical care, which critics call a de facto ban.
DeWine's actions have drawn criticism from both sides of the political spectrum, with conservatives calling for an override of his veto and progressives condemning his executive order.
Despite the executive order, the Ohio legislature is still planning to vote on overriding DeWine's veto.
