Ohio Driver’s Licenses Are Now Available in Google Wallet

The change lets Ohioans store a verified license locally on a secured Android device and restarts Google’s paused rollout of state mobile IDs.

Overview

  • The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles opened enrollment on Monday, August 31, 2026, allowing residents to add their driver’s license to Google Wallet through the app’s IDs & personal info flow.
  • Setup requires photos of the front and back of the physical card plus a short facial verification video that the BMV reviews before the digital pass goes live.
  • Google Wallet stores Ohio digital IDs as private passes tied to a single Android device, does not sync them to cloud backups, and allows users to delete the pass locally or remotely via myaccount.google.com.
  • Devices must run Android 8 or higher with a secure screen lock and Bluetooth/Nearby enabled, and the digital ID can be presented by NFC or QR at participating businesses, state buildings, Ohio casinos and TSA checkpoints while officials still advise keeping the physical card for traffic stops.
  • Ohio becomes the twelfth region supported by Google Wallet’s digital ID program, a step that restores Android parity after earlier Apple Wallet rollouts and could prompt wider reader adoption by businesses and government sites.
