Overview
- Jodi Proger, 64, died on Nov. 15 after being trapped with a male deer that turned aggressive on her Stewartsville property.
- Responding Belmont County deputies shot the deer to secure the scene after relatives tried and failed to reach her safely.
- The Belmont County Coroner’s Office is assisting, and the sheriff says no foul play is suspected.
- Officials have not publicly identified which deer was involved as Proger’s daughter says longtime rescued deer Wheezer was not the attacker and was neutered per ODNR rules.
- Proger had rehabilitated whitetail deer for about 12 years and kept multiple animals on her five-acre property under permits.
