Ohio Abortion Rights Groups Submit 700,000 Signatures to Place Measure Protecting Reproductive Freedom on November Ballot

Pro-abortion rights groups in Ohio submitted 710,000 signatures for a ballot measure on abortion, nearly twice the required number.
The proposed amendment would protect the right to make reproductive decisions, including contraception, fertility treatment, pregnancy continuation, miscarriage care, and abortion. It would allow abortion to be prohibited after fetal viability but still permit it if necessary to protect a patient's life.
If certified, Ohio would be the first red state to have a constitutional amendment on the ballot for this election cycle.
The signatures will be reviewed for duplicates or errors, and if enough are valid, the question of abortion legality will be on the November ballot.
The measure aims to insert language in the state constitution guaranteeing the right to reproductive decisions and prohibiting interference or discrimination.
