OGDCL Announces High-Flow Oil and Gas Discovery at Kohat’s Baragzai X-1

The operator plans appraisal after tests confirmed a deep Datta Formation reservoir.

Overview

  • OGDCL reports the Baragzai X-1 well in the Nashpa Block tested at 4,100 barrels of oil per day and 10.5 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
  • The well was drilled to 5,170 meters and encountered a 187-meter hydrocarbon interval in the Datta Formation, confirmed by a cased-hole drill stem test at a 32/64-inch choke and 3,880 psi wellhead pressure.
  • OGDCL operates the licence with a 65% working interest, with Pakistan Petroleum Limited at 30% and Government Holdings Private Limited at 5%.
  • Earlier cased-hole testing in the Kingriali Formation at the same location produced 2,280 barrels of oil per day and 5.6 million standard cubic feet per day, indicating further potential subject to appraisal.
  • The company says the discovery could bolster domestic supply as the joint venture advances development planning, and it is accelerating a separate shale program to a five- to six-well campaign in 2026–27.
