Overview
- Ofgem’s latest public message highlights that people aged 66 or over can register for priority help with their energy supplier at no cost.
- Eligibility also covers people with disabilities or long‑term health conditions, users of electricity‑dependent medical equipment, those with language barriers, new or expectant parents, and others with recent changes in circumstances.
- Registered customers can receive priority assistance in emergencies, advance notice of planned power cuts, secure ID and password checks for visits, nominated contacts for bills, accessible formats, regular readings, meter moves, and help reconnecting gas.
- Customers must contact their energy supplier or network operator directly to join, register separately for gas and electricity if they use different firms, and re‑register after switching providers.
- Energy suppliers and network operators are required to maintain a Priority Services Register, and coverage notes that many eligible households may be missing out because they have not enrolled, with similar priority schemes available in water, telecoms and public transport.
