Ofgem Price Cap Rise to Nudge Up Home EV Charging Costs From 1 October

An average 60kWh home charge is estimated to increase by 38p to £15.81, keeping per‑mile costs low compared with petrol.

Overview

  • Ofgem said the cap for a typical dual-fuel household will rise by two percent from October, taking the annual figure to £1,755, or about £2.93 more per month.
  • Estimated home-charging costs translate to roughly 8.8p per mile for less efficient EVs and 6.6p per mile for more efficient models, up 0.2p.
  • Charging a 60kWh EV daily at home would add about £138 to annual household costs based on the new rates.
  • With around 1.6 million EVs and average home charger use of 108kWh a month, total monthly charging spend is projected at £45.5 million, about £1 million higher.
  • Carmoola’s Aidan Rushby says home charging still averages about 6p or 9p per mile depending on efficiency, with grants of up to £3,750 helping offset ownership costs.
