Overview

  • Ofgem penalised Cadent Gas, Scotland Gas Networks and Southern Gas Networks a combined £8m for failing to attend at least 97% of gas leak reports within the required one-to-two-hour window between 2022 and 2023.
  • Southern Gas Networks faces the largest penalty at £5.8m, while Cadent Gas will pay £1.5m and Scotland Gas Networks £700,000.
  • The three firms self-reported missed call-out targets, triggering an Ofgem investigation into their emergency response procedures.
  • Ofgem director Cathryn Scott said the companies have since overhauled their systems and met response benchmarks in the two years following the breach.
  • Funds will be channelled into the regulator’s voluntary redress fund to finance projects that aid vulnerable energy customers.
