Overview
- Travizano, 45, was confirmed by the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office as the victim of the Sept. 12 fall during his descent from the summit via the Clear Creek route.
- He and a companion became disoriented near 13,500 feet, attempted to glissade to lower ground, and he lost control, struck a boulder, briefly regained consciousness, then fell to about 10,200 feet.
- A CHP helicopter located his body the same afternoon and rescuers recovered him the following day with support from county search-and-rescue teams and U.S. Forest Service climbing rangers.
- Authorities warn that Clear Creek is often considered easier but can funnel off-route climbers into hazardous drainages in low visibility, and they note frequent accidents from glissading.
- Officials say this was Mount Shasta’s second climbing fatality of 2025, and they report multiple rescue missions this year as the peak typically records one to three deaths annually.
