Overview

  • Technisches Hilfswerk and fire brigades erected oil barriers and deployed skimmers to recover most of the leaked marine diesel.
  • An 80-centimeter hull breach on the Coastal Legend allowed around 6,000 liters of fuel to escape into the port basin.
  • Neither the crew of the Coastal Legend nor the tanker Capella suffered injuries in the early-morning collision.
  • The Wasserschutzpolizei is examining navigation logs and pilotage procedures to determine how the ships collided during entry to the Vorhafen.
  • Greenpeace and NABU warn that residual diesel could harm marine wildlife and urge authorities to tighten safety protocols in Northern European waters.
