Off-Duty Police Officer and Civilian Killed in North Yorkshire Crash

PC Rosie Prior and Ryan Welford lost their lives after being struck by a lorry while assisting at the scene of a prior collision on the A19.

PC Rosie Prior, an off-duty North Yorkshire police officer, was killed while helping at the scene of a highway crash near Thirsk on Saturday morning.
Ryan Welford, 41, a driver involved in the initial collision, also died at the scene; a teenage passenger from his car remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
The driver of the heavy goods vehicle, a 65-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation.
Tributes have poured in for PC Prior, described by colleagues as embodying the best of British policing and by her family as a devoted mother, wife, and sister.
Authorities are urging witnesses and motorists with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
