Overview

• Two off-duty NYPD officers spotted a man entering a parked car around 1:05 a.m. on 40th Street near Buffalo Avenue in Lindenhurst, according to Suffolk County police.
• During a foot chase, the suspect allegedly stabbed one officer in the left leg before both officers restrained him until responding officers arrived.
• The injured 28-year-old officer was taken to a local hospital and was reported in stable condition.
• Police identified the suspect as Royal Hooks, 27, of New York City, and charged him with second-degree assault and petit larceny, with arraignment expected Thursday in Central Islip.
• Investigators recovered a knife at the scene and said several items had been taken from the vehicle.
