Overview

• Prosecutors say Det. John O’Connell pulled alongside a car of three 16-year-olds on Route 6 in Somers and pointed a loaded Glock 19, yelling, “I have a gun.”
• O’Connell was charged with second-degree menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
• He pleaded not guilty, was released on his own recognizance because the charges are not bail-eligible, and is due back in Somers Town Court on Monday, Sept. 8.
• Justice Michael McDermott granted temporary orders of protection for the three teenagers.
