Ofcom Raises Automatic Broadband Payouts as New Rules Take Effect

Bill credits follow for qualifying faults within 30 days.

Overview

  • Ofcom's April update lifts automatic compensation to £10.34 per day for delayed repairs, £32.31 for missed or cancelled appointments, and £6.46 per day for delayed service starts.
  • The scheme covers BT, Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk, EE, Plusnet, Vodafone, Hyperoptic, Utility Warehouse and Zen Internet.
  • Customers become eligible when a total loss of service is not fixed within two working days, and providers must issue the credit to the account within 30 days.
  • If you use a smaller provider such as Community Fibre, Giffgaff or Gigaclear, check if it participates, and take unpaid claims to an Ofcom‑approved dispute service.
  • Rates will rise each year with Consumer Price Index inflation, building on a programme that paid more than £63 million in 2024.
