Ofcom Fines AI ‘Nudification’ Site for Age-Check Failures as It Opens Probes Into 20 Porn Sites

Clear age-check standards signal tougher enforcement with potential blocks for holdouts.

Overview

  • Itai Tech Ltd was fined £50,000 for operating Undress.cc without the “highly effective” age assurance required by the Online Safety Act.
  • Ofcom added a £5,000 penalty after the company failed to comply with a statutory information request.
  • Undress.cc was made unavailable to users with UK IP addresses after the investigation began, an action Ofcom considered when setting the fine.
  • Formal investigations have been opened into five companies running about 20 pornography sites, with 76 providers now listed in Ofcom’s age-assurance enforcement programme.
  • Ofcom says self-declaration and basic payment-card checks are insufficient, endorsing photo ID matching, facial age estimation, mobile network–verified checks and open-banking verification, and it warns that larger fines and access blocking may follow for non-compliance.
