Ofcom Declines to Investigate Ed Balls' Interview of Wife Yvette Cooper on ITV

ITV's chief executive defends the controversial segment as fair and impartial, but vows not to repeat such interviews.

Ofcom received over 16,000 complaints regarding Ed Balls interviewing his wife, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, on Good Morning Britain.
The media regulator decided not to pursue an investigation, citing that the relationship was disclosed and the interview was largely conducted by co-host Kate Garraway.
ITV's chief executive, Dame Carolyn McCall, described the situation as a 'very tricky morning' and stated that the broadcaster had very short notice of Cooper's appearance.
Ofcom issued guidance to ITV to ensure greater care over the compliance of such interviews in the future to maintain impartiality.
Complaints also targeted a separate interview with MP Zarah Sultana, which Ofcom deemed consistent with viewers' expectations of political interviews.
