ODOT Activates Multi-View Camera at Howland Diverging Diamond as Project Nears October Finish

The $20 million upgrade targets a high-crash interchange that carries more than 50,000 vehicles daily.

Overview

  • The new OHGO feed offers four-panel views of Route 82 east and west and Route 46 north and south, including ramps at the SR 46/82 interchange.
  • ODOT says the cameras went live about a week ago, recordings are retained for 72 hours, and this is the first camera installation at the site.
  • Construction, which began in 2023, is on track to wrap up by late October, with possible follow-up seeding or landscaping not expected to affect traffic.
  • Short-term closures and posted detours remain through mid-October for SR 46 under SR 82 and several ramps as crews finish work.
  • ODOT cites 159 crashes over four years at the location and reports DDIs have reduced overall crashes by about 37% and injury or fatal crashes by about 54% elsewhere, with additional cameras planned on I-680 at US 224, Market St., and I-80 without announced activation dates.
