Overview
- On September 17, Odisha will plant 75 lakh saplings in a single day under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign as a tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.
- The drive is part of the campaign’s second edition running from June 5 to September 30, during which Odisha aims to plant 7.5 crore trees across the state.
- Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has tasked the Information and Public Relations Department with an extensive publicity effort to turn the plantation into a people’s movement.
- Plantation data and photographs will be uploaded to the Meri Life portal for real-time tracking while panchayat officers oversee local rollout and sapling survival.
- Planting will focus on native and climate-resilient species such as Neem, Karanja, Tamarind and Pipal to boost ecological resilience and community stewardship.
