Overview
- Four new MBBS colleges will open in Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal and Nabarangpur to broaden medical training capacity.
- The state government has approved four dental colleges in Burla, Berhampur, Bolangir and Keonjhar and an Ayurvedic institute in Mayurbhanj.
- The 100-seat MBBS colleges at Phulbani and Talcher will begin classes this academic year following their recent inauguration.
- Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling said the initiative is aimed at addressing Odisha’s doctor shortage and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for their support.
- Odisha recruited over 4,000 doctors and paramedical staff last year and plans to hire more than 5,000 personnel this year to staff the expanding network.
