Odisha Reports 37,611 Crimes Against Women in 14 Months, Assembly Told

The update underscores persistent high caseloads with outcomes that trail far behind the volume of registered complaints.

  • Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, responding to Congress MLA Sofia Firdous, presented the official tally covering June 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025.
  • Molestation (9,181) and abduction (8,227) led the categories, followed by non-dowry torture (6,134), dowry-related torture (5,464) and 2,933 rapes.
  • Additional counts included 1,278 sexual harassment, 2,161 public disrobing, 702 eve-teasing, 174 attempted rape, 447 stalking, three acid attacks and three attempts, 127 trafficking, 264 dowry homicides and 44 dowry suicides.
  • Police reported 5,979 arrests, including 225 women, while courts recorded 799 convictions, with 426 in rape cases.
  • The government cited supervision by senior police, IUCAW units in 29 districts, a CID online abuse monitor, expanded CCTV, ERSS 112, community policing and 24 special POCSO courts.
