Odisha Police Seize 350 Kg of Cannabis, Arrest 5 After Armed SUV Stop in Koraput

Police say the Koraput action targeted an interstate network that routes locally grown cannabis to other states.

Overview

  • A Padwa police team intercepted a Bolero on October 14 after a chase from Mali Sublar Chhak, stopping the SUV near a checkpost as one suspect reportedly brandished a pistol.
  • Officers recovered about 350 kilograms of high-grade cannabis valued at Rs 35 lakh and two pistols, and the operation ended without injuries.
  • The arrested suspects were identified as Lal Bahadur Darjee, Trinath Khara, Suresh Bisoi, Sanjaya Khara, and Jogesh Khara.
  • Police described Darjee as a habitual offender with more than 20 cases, including under the NDPS and POCSO Acts, and said a team was sent to Bihar to probe his interstate links.
  • In a separate development, authorities invoked the National Security Act to detain history-sheeter Hrudananda Nayak after legal formalities.
