Odisha Peon Arrested for Serving Urine to Engineer

Authorities have forwarded the complaint to the Odisha Water Resources Directorate with oversight extending to the National Human Rights Commission.

Following the senior's complaint, Nayak was detained for questioning and later arrested.

  • Siba Narayan Nayak was arrested by R Udayagiri police after allegedly handing a urine-filled bottle to junior engineer Sachin Kumar Gouda on the night of July 23.
  • A preliminary laboratory test detected 2.0 PPM of ammonia in the sample and a second specimen has been sent to a state lab for confirmation.
  • Gouda fell ill after consuming the liquid, received treatment at MKCG Medical College in Berhampur, and has since recovered.
  • The engineer’s FIR triggered an escalation of the case to state water authorities and the NHRC to ensure independent review of institutional procedures.
  • Police are continuing to verify lab findings and investigate Nayak’s motive, interviewing colleagues who also tasted the contaminated liquid.
