Odisha Lays Foundation for New Assembly and Lok Seva Bhavan, Plus Bhubaneswar Elevated Corridor

The project centralizes dispersed offices into a future-ready campus, with construction beginning on the secretariat in Phase I.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated foundation works for an integrated 71.13-acre campus housing a new Legislative Assembly and a new Lok Seva Bhavan.
  • The campus is budgeted at ₹3,623 crore within a broader ₹6,701 crore package, replacing ageing facilities that officials say no longer meet safety and space needs.
  • The planned Assembly hall is sized for up to 300 members, as the CM noted a potential rise from the current 147 MLAs after delimitation.
  • Phase I prioritizes a 12-storey secretariat-cum-Mantralaya with three basement levels, additional office blocks, and multi-level underground parking.
  • The CM also launched a ₹952 crore elevated corridor from Jaydev Vihar to Nandankanan, with DPR approval, key junction flyovers, a planned cable-stayed bridge, and 22,410 trees to be planted along the route.
