Odisha Hikes Milk Producer Rates by ₹3/Litre, Introduces ₹1 Lakh Death Cover

  • On World Milk Day, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a ₹3 per litre increase for milk producers affiliated with the state-owned OMFED.
  • Milk farmers will receive ₹1 lakh in accidental death compensation under the newly unveiled welfare measure.
  • Consumer milk prices will rise by ₹4 per litre with the government subsidising half of the increase.
  • The Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana was allocated ₹1,423 crore over five years while the Mukhyamantri Prani Kalyan Yojana received ₹186 crore.
  • Odisha’s 2023-24 milk output reached 26.4 lakh metric tonnes with per capita availability at 156 grams versus the national average of 471 grams and the state aims to double production within five years.
