Odisha Doubles Rice Milling Charges During Procurement Season

Officials say the rise aims to offset higher labour, fuel and input costs that threatened millers’ ability to process state purchases.

Overview

  • The state government approved a two-fold increase in milling charges and put it into effect immediately to coincide with the ongoing procurement cycle.
  • Parboiled Ushuna milling fees were raised from Rs 20 to Rs 40 per quintal and raw Arua fees from Rs 10 to Rs 20 per quintal, the Chief Minister's Office said.
  • Officials cited sustained demands from millers who have faced rising wages, fuel bills and other milling input costs as the reason for the revision.
  • The government says the change will encourage millers to keep operating, speed up the lifting and processing of paddy from farmers, and strengthen the state’s rice value chain.
  • Representative millers welcomed the move as much-needed relief and said they expect smoother and more timely procurement and Custom Milled Rice operations across Odisha.
