Overview

• The Criminal Investigation Department nabbed Seikh Wasiul Islam and Jyoti Prakash Pallai on May 28 and a Cuttack court remanded them under the OPID Act.
• The victim filed a cyber FIR on May 1 after small UPI payments between August 2022 and January 2025 escalated into losses exceeding ₹1.08 crore.
• Investigators uncovered fake gaming platforms and phishing websites that duped the victim into sharing UPI credentials and OTPs.
• Police seized passbooks, cheque books, mobile phones, SIM cards and identity documents including Aadhar and PAN cards during searches.
• CID officials urged citizens to report unsolicited gaming apps on WhatsApp, Telegram or social media to help prevent similar cyber frauds.
