Overview
- The Cabinet approved the Odisha Development Authorities (Amendment) Bill, 2026 on Saturday to add a new Chapter IIA that legally enables Economic Region Development Authorities.
- The amendment introduces definitions for “Economic Region” and “Economic Region Development Authority” so the state can notify and constitute future authorities without separate laws.
- Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip (BKPPER) has been prepared as the pilot ERDA in partnership with NITI Aayog and will be formally constituted once the Odisha Legislative Assembly passes the Bill.
- The state has identified other multi-city agglomerations for phased development, including Bargarh–Jharsuguda–Sambalpur, Berhampur–Chhatrapur–Gopalpur, and Jeypore–Koraput–Sunabeda.
- The Cabinet also approved Mukhya Mantri Janajati Jeevika Mission 2.0 with a ₹2,995 crore state outlay to reach 8 lakh tribal and PVTG households, provide ₹30,000 per household by DBT, and set aside a ₹500 crore Flexi Fund for PVTG needs.
