Odisha Approves Eight Mega Projects Worth Rs 1.51 Lakh Crore

The investments span aluminium, chemicals, steel, textiles and ancillary metals as part of the state’s drive to become a leading industrial hub by 2036.

Overview

  • The projects approved on June 16 include flagship proposals such as Vedanta’s Rs 1,28,000 crore aluminium smelter and 4,900 MW captive power plant in Dhenkanal, expected to generate about 30,000 jobs.
  • SRF Limited’s Rs 10,000 crore specialty chemicals and refrigerant unit in Ganjam is projected to employ around 20,000 people, bolstering the state’s chemicals sector.
  • Steel and metal downstream investments include Jindal India Steel Tech’s Rs 3,600 crore specialty steel facility in Dhenkanal and Shyam Steel Manufacturing’s Rs 2,490 crore integrated steel plant in Keonjhar, together creating over 4,300 jobs.
  • Linde India’s Rs 1,303.5 crore air separation unit in Jajpur will employ about 100 people and Sportking India’s Rs 2,055 crore cotton and blended yarn plant in Khurda is set to hire 4,800 workers.
  • Since June 12, 2024, the High-Level Clearance Authority has approved 62 projects worth Rs 5.67 lakh crore with the potential to create 2.42 lakh jobs, underlining Odisha’s sustained industrialization drive.
