Overview

  • The analysis covered 44 sunscreens tested with in vivo and in vitro HDRS spectroscopy under ISO23698 standards
  • All SPF30 products met their advertised protection levels, while several SPF50+ formulations provided only around SPF30 coverage
  • Five SPF30 creams contained potentially allergenic fragrances and more than half of all samples included microplastic particles
  • Only four of the 14 evaluated sunscreens used recycled materials in their packaging, highlighting environmental impact concerns
  • The OCU has urged the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices to launch formal investigations into the non-compliant SPF50+ products
