October Brings Instant SEPA Transfers, EU Biometric Border Checks and Windows 10’s Support End

  • From 9 October, euro‑area banks must execute instant SEPA transfers around the clock at no extra cost and perform automated IBAN–name checks before releasing payments.
  • The EU’s Electronic Entry/Exit System launches on 12 October, replacing passport stamps for non‑EU travelers with fingerprint and facial‑image capture under a six‑month transition.
  • Microsoft ends free security updates for Windows 10 on 14 October, with Extended Security Updates offered for users who cannot upgrade.
  • In Germany, doctors are required from 1 October to use the electronic patient record and upload new diagnoses and findings to patients’ files.
  • Germany switches to winter time in the night of 25–26 October, with clocks moving back from 3:00 to 2:00.
