October 1 Price Hike Raises Basic-Service Bills Across Argentina

Automatic inflation formulas and a recent gas-subsidy reform are shifting more costs onto households.

Overview

  • Multiple basic services will increase from October 1, hitting transport, private health plans, water, rent and energy bills.
  • Medical prepaid plans reported rises uploaded to the Superintendencia de Servicios de Salud system with increases up to 4.9% for some providers.
  • Subway and bus fares in the City and Province of Buenos Aires are set to climb about 3.6–3.7% under the automatic formula that uses INDEC inflation plus two percentage points.
  • The Senate-approved 'zonas frías' reform removes automatic 30–50% gas subsidies for more than one million users in 11 provinces outside Patagonia and moves them to a targeted subsidy program while ENReGE has yet to publish final October tariff tables for gas and electricity.
  • Rent updates will follow the BCRA's ICL figures (for example, quarterly 6.72% and annual 31.67%) and AySA published a 2.17% water coefficient while limited protections such as frozen private school fees and social transport benefits remain in place.
