Ocon Disqualified From Baku Qualifying Over Rear-Wing Flex Breach

The ruling marks the first confirmed enforcement case under the FIA’s stricter aero-elasticity limits this season.

Overview

  • FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer’s post-session test found Ocon’s rear wing exceeded the 0.5mm deflection limit, measuring 0.6mm on the left and about 0.825–0.85mm on the right.
  • The stewards disqualified Ocon from the qualifying classifications after Haas accepted the test procedure and instrument calibration as valid.
  • Haas told stewards the excess flex resulted from a production or assembly problem with that specific rear-wing component.
  • Ocon had originally placed 18th after reporting severe braking and lock-up issues and will now start last, promoting Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon up the order.
  • The breach relates to Article 3.15.17, updated this season to cap rear-wing main-plane deflection at 0.5mm under a 750Nm static load.
