Ocon Disqualified From Baku Qualifying Over Haas Rear-Wing Flex Test Failure

Stewards enforced new 0.5mm rear-wing deflection limits after Haas said a production fault caused the over-flex.

Overview

  • FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer’s post-qualifying check found the rear wing deflected 0.6mm on the left and 0.825–0.85mm on the right, exceeding the 0.5mm limit in Article 3.15.17.
  • The stewards excluded Esteban Ocon from the qualifying classification, and he will start the Azerbaijan Grand Prix from the back.
  • Haas accepted that the test procedure and instrument calibration were valid and attributed the non-compliance to a production or assembly issue on that specific part.
  • The 2025 rules reduced permitted rear-wing deflection from 2mm to 0.5mm under a 750Nm static load, and this is the first disqualification under the tightened flex regulations.
  • Ocon had originally qualified 18th after reporting severe braking problems, limiting the immediate sporting impact of the penalty.
