OCBC Launches AI‑Native Wealth App With Two Virtual Avatars

The bank says the avatars will augment human advisers as it backs the platform with major hiring and more than S$1 billion a year in digital and AI investment.

Overview

  • OCBC unveiled OCBC WoW on July 1 and began a limited beta with 50 invited Premier Private Client users to test two avatars called Wendy and Wayne.
  • The avatars speak by voice or text, monitor portfolios in real time, deliver personalised market news and surface investment ideas that are tied to OCBC’s proprietary research under deterministic guardrails.
  • OCBC describes the app as model‑agnostic and built from a mix of large language models to generate responses while preventing the use of unverified internet sources.
  • The bank said the technology is meant to augment, not replace, human advisers and plans to hire 600 additional relationship managers over three years to handle complex suitability checks and deeper client work.
  • OCBC will roll the app out progressively across Singapore over the next 12 months, add Mandarin and regional languages, and later expand capabilities into insurance and core banking as part of a wider push to grow wealth income.
