Ocado Unveils Weight Management Aisle With ‘Small Steak’ for GLP-1 Shoppers

The company cites survey findings showing demand for nutrition guidance around GLP-1 use.

Overview

  • The dedicated section targets customers seeking portion-controlled, high-protein foods, featuring a 100g extra-lean ‘small steak’.
  • The new section draws on M&S’s “nutrient dense” range and other under-600-calorie, protein-forward items, following recent GLP-1-focused launches by M&S, Waitrose and Greggs.
  • Ocado reports 22% of UK adults have considered weight-loss injections, rising to 37% among 25–34-year-olds, based on a December Savanta survey of 2,134 people.
  • Only 40% of respondents said they understood how GLP-1 drugs work, while 73% wanted clear advice on foods that help preserve lean muscle, a priority highlighted by Ocado’s nutrition lead.
  • Week-on-week sales between late December and early January showed protein staples surging, with steak up 63%, chicken 88%, cottage cheese 138% and liquid egg whites 82%.
