Overview

  • The two-part snap-on Obsoless case houses a custom circuit board to deliver full USB-C functionality, including 9V fast charging, computer data transfers, Apple CarPlay and MagSafe wireless charging, without requiring internal iPhone modifications.
  • It supports 20 Lightning-port iPhone models, spanning from the iPhone SE through the iPhone 14 series, giving users a modern connector without replacing their devices.
  • Priced between $45 and $55, the first production run sold out on July 23, and Obsoless will restock in August with additional color options arriving in September.
  • Obsoless is the first commercial product from Swiss engineer Ken Pillonel, who built on his viral 2021 DIY USB-C iPhone hack to create a market-ready solution.
  • By sidestepping Apple’s proprietary Lightning licensing and embracing industry-wide USB-C standardization, the case extends the useful life of millions of older iPhones.
