Overview
- This week Xbox repositioned Obsidian Entertainment to report into Bethesda, and Obsidian’s CEO Feargus Urquhart and the studio leadership will remain in place.
- Bethesda president Jill Braff told staff the shift is mainly a reporting change and that the company is not resetting studio roadmaps.
- Bethesda will continue to lead the Fallout franchise while working with Obsidian on a separate new Fallout title, joining other confirmed Bethesda projects such as Fallout 5 and two remasters.
- The reorganization follows earlier layoffs and project changes at Obsidian, including a California WARN notice recording 52 job cuts and reporting that an Avowed sequel was canceled to free resources for Fallout work.
- Operational roles, exact division of work between the studios, and long-term autonomy for Obsidian remain unspecified, and Bethesda says it will share more detailed roadmaps in the months ahead.
