O’Brien Returns to Lead CCC, Social Consumption Vote Slips to Oct. 23–24

A court reinstatement through 2027 triggered a pause to ready the agency for a leadership transition.

Overview

  • The Cannabis Control Commission rescheduled next week’s final review of social consumption regulations and agent registration changes to Oct. 23 and Oct. 24.
  • The agency said the postponement is intended to support the transition of leadership, and a spokesperson said Shannon O’Brien made the decision.
  • Two other public meetings remain on the calendar for Oct. 1 and Oct. 9 to handle licensing reviews, 2025 goals, working group updates, and policy discussions.
  • O’Brien was ordered reinstated by a Superior Court judge with back pay and is entitled to serve through Aug. 31, 2027.
  • Equity advocates criticized the delay, and Treasurer Deborah Goldberg’s attempt to keep O’Brien from returning was dropped after an appeals court denied a stay.
